ABOUT US

Helping Disadvantaged Women And Children In Costa Rica

At Hijos de la Promesa (Children of Promise), we believe that the heart of the woman is her child. Our aim is to see the restoration of children through the rescuing of their mothers.

Hijos de la Promesa exists to provide a shelter where mothers and their children living in a state of abandonment, poverty, abuse and/or exploitation can come and receive healing, identity, purpose and a renewed life in Jesus Christ. Here the mother will receive a way out of abandoning her children and way to effectively fulfill her God given role. Our heart is to demonstrate the love of God by meeting the need.

THE DIFFICULTIES THEY FACE

Confronting the Core of Costa Rica’s Challenges

As Hijos de la Promesa, we recognize and actively engage with the pressing issues that our communities face. Guided by faith, our efforts are dedicated to empowering those affected by adolescent pregnancy, alleviating poverty, and providing solace and support to victims of abuse in Costa Rica.

Adolescent Pregnancy

Around 50% of births in Costa Rica are unintentional, including 5,000 adolescent pregnancies. The country faces a distressing issue, as on average, four babies are born per week to girls ages 14 or younger.

Poverty

Costa Rica has the highest rate of child and adolescent poverty among the 38 OECD (Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development) countries, with 27.4% of people under 18 living without sufficient resources. Child poverty in Costa Rica far surpasses other countries like Turkey, Israel, Spain, Romania, and Bulgaria.

Abuse

Generally, sexual, physical and verbal abuse are all likely to result in poverty and/or adolescent pregnancies, which often times are by a girl’s own father, step-father, or any male within their family. The elimination of improper relationships is crucial to eradicating the intergenerational reproduction of poverty and reducing the vulnerability of minors.

Our Mission

Our mission is to provide integral help to women who are pregnant and/or with child living in social risk; offering them the opportunity to be rejuvenated spiritually, restored emotionally and equipped physically through biblical teaching combined with practical and educational training.

Our Vision

We envision a future of transformed women walking in their new God-given identity and purpose; fruitfully fulfilling their role in society and positively impacting generations that follow.
